See here a small selection of the 40+ homemade valentines cards that I have been making "with" Mathilda. Frankly, I'm disappointed in her. She completely flaked out on me on this project. She left me hanging about 3 cards in.
Her preschool is having a Teddy Bear Tea Party on Wednesday (Valentine's Day) and the kids would be passing out their Valentine's cards. Her teachers distributed a little "newsletter" for February that is really just poorly disguised propoganda. In this so-called newsletter is a list of all 34 students' names plus the 12 teachers names, each of which will be horribly disappointed if they don't get a Valentine's card from your child.
I had a few moments of silent glee when I considered that Mathilda isn't in school on Wednesdays and we would thus be off the hook. But I got sucked into the cuteness of a Teddy Bear Teaparty and couldn't "bear" (get it?) to face Mathilda on Thursday when all the other kids are talking about how fun the teaparty was. Anyhow, refusing to shell out even a few dollars for some crappy Cinderella valentine's cards, I decided that making handmade cards would be a fun mother/daughter project. I should have counted the names before I launched into this project. I also should NOT have counted on Mathilda to have any sort of stick-to-it-iveness...she's only 2 'n three quarters. So now it's Monday night and I am short like 10 cards and I have not a single ounce of inspiration to do anything more than to reluctantly buy those damn hideous branded cards and scrawl some names on them. I lost my battle with the Man. But, hey, aren't the cards "we" made adorable?
[this is good]
Yes, they are adorable! I'm surprised at Mathilda being only "2 'n three quarters" that she lasted long enough to do three! LOL I do an hourly craft night at work for kids ranging in age from 3 to 12 each month, and let me tell you, the attention span of those wee ones lasts about 10 minutes, if that!
Feel free to pop over to my website, Dreamland Magic and print out the Valentines that I have there for the wee ones to colour. It's cheaper than purchasing and you can take all the time in the world to colour them in if you start now for next year. ;)

Those darn kids! LOL I too, had to do "Valentine's Day propoganda" this year for all three children. *sigh* At what age does this end? LOL Just remember, you'll be the coolest mom ever when she grows up! ;)

Thanks Wise Old Owl. I might just do that next year. The problem w/ starting that project now is that I'll lose the finished ones way before VDay happens again. I even lost the list of kids names halfway through my project :-)

oh my, you are way more of a supermom than I am. We know The Man well, and have learned to accept his role in our life. We just bought a box of Valentines that we let our 3 year old daughter pick out herself (Tinkerbell). I let her choose what card to give each of her preschool classmates and teachers (thankfully we only had 16+3!), and did the writing for her. Then I let her put a foam sticker or two on each of them. By the end (about 15 minutes) she was holding all the unused cards like she was playing poker or something, she wouldn't give them up and even now will go through her collection of Tinkerbell cards like they are a precious commodity. Silly little cheap cards that she likes more than anything I could have handcrafted for her. Kids are so funny.
